RETAIL SALES ASSOCIATES

We are currently looking to hire team members to work during the busy season in our retail store.  Full time and part time hours are available. We are looking for happy, creative people who enjoy customers and hard work. We want people who have an interest in plants, and want to garden 100% organically. Plant knowledge and care is a plus. Must be able to work one weekend day.

Associates will be involved in all aspects of our daily duties which include: Selling and loading customer vehicles with plants, mulch, soil and fertilizer, unloading plant truck deliveries, tagging and displaying plants, watering and tending plants, ringing a computerized cash register and basically anything else needed during the course of the day to help Natureworks succeed.

The ability to lift and carry 50lb bags of soils and fertilizers is required.

Benefits package (sick, vacation days, health insurance contribution, Simple IRA pension plan) available after one year of work.

LANDSCAPE SUPERVISOR

Candidates for consideration must have prior landscaping experience who are reliable and hard working and enjoy working outdoors. This position will supervise our landscaping/planting crew and must have previous supervisory experience. This is a full time working position.  Must be able to work long hours during busy seasons. Must be fluent in English. The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a plus. Compensation depends on experience.  *This is not a mowing position.

Requirements:

  • Must have own transportation to and from our facility in Durham.
  • Valid CT license and clean driving record required.
  • Ability to drive a truck with a trailer. CDL license helpful but not required.
  • Ability to solve problems in the field, manage deadlines and complete work correctly the first time.
  • General knowledge of plant material, landscape practices, plant & sod installation, cleanups, mulching, pruning and seeding. This is a working position.
  • Experienced tractor operation and finish grading.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

MOWING CREW MEMBERS

Ideal candidates must be hard working, responsible individuals with prior mowing and landscaping experience who enjoy working outdoors. This is a full time position. Must be able to work long hours during busy seasons. Compensation depends on experience.

Requirements:

  • Must have own transportation to and from our facility in Durham.
  • Must have previous commercial mowing experience.
  • Must be able and willing to join landscape crew as needed (please see Landscape Crew Member job requirements)

GARDEN CREW MEMBER

If you enjoy working outside and have the experience and knowledge needed to maintain gardens, we would love to have you join our landscape crew. We are looking for applicants who are reliable, highly self-motivated, and hard working. The applicant will work under the direction of an experienced garden supervisor. This is a full time position. Must be able to work long hours during the busy season. Including Saturdays when necessary. Compensation depends on experience. Must be fluent in English.  The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Must have own transportation to and from our facility in Durham.
  • Valid CT license and clean driving record a plus.
  • 2+  years experience in horticulture or closely related field.
  • Associate degree in horticulture/landscaping preferred (but not required)
  • Must have knowledge of the characteristics, growth habits, and proper maintenance requirements for a wide variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and ornamental trees. Regular tasks to be included are planting, pruning, deadheading, weeding, transplanting, and general cleanup.
  • This position requires physical activity on a daily basis. The applicant must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Must be able to bend, kneel, and climb ladders throughout the day.

Inventory Control Coach- Full Time Position

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Maximize sales opportunities by maintaining inventory accuracy, providing reliable due dates, current availability comments, and current plant photos. Manage inventory processes and identify opportunities for improvement by working with Department Coaches, Grower Coaches and the Nursery Inventory Coach.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify plant material ready for sales or production and receive into the appropriate warehouse. Review Work in Process Inventory Balance Report for discrepancies and adjust as required.
  • Maintain accurate plant availability comments to improve communication and increase sales opportunities.
  • Routinely review and adjust Work in Process order due dates to provide accurate and dependable information.
  • When necessary, change default stock location for items received to the Sales and Production Warehouses. Communicate effectively with Assembly and Grower Coaches to maximize location accuracy.
  • Verify inventory data is collected properly by field craftsmen and identify opportunities for improvement. Take action by working with Functional Coaches, Grower Coach or Inventory Manager.
  • Based on plant confirmations, implement and maintain annual color code tie-off system by working with your team and the Crop Grower Coaches.
  • At the request of the Nursery Inventory Coach, provide inventory information in a timely fashion to best serve our customer needs.
  • Provide plant pictures to the Sales Team by following the Monrovia standard procedure.
  • Responsible for assuring cycle counts of crops are performed accurately, in a timely manner, and documented properly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic computer knowledge and proficient with Excel.
  • Strong plant identification and plant cultural knowledge.
  • Two-year degree in horticulture or related field; or three years of nursery industry experience.
  • Well organized, detailed oriented and proficient with basic math skills. Ability to take initiative with minimal direction. Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment. Ability to delegate.
  • Effective written and verbal communicator, bilingual skills beneficial.

JOB DESCRIPTION SENIOR GROUNDSKEEPER:

The Senior Groundskeeper will be a full-time, year-round employee of Mill River Park Collaborative and is an integral part of the Park Operations team. The position reports to the Land Care Manager.
Working with a team of Land Care Associates, the Volunteer Coordinator and Park Administrators, this employee is responsible for leading the year-round care and maintenance of the parks landscape and hardscape features and well as maintaining all equipment needed to care for the park.

  • Primary Tasks
  • Develop and implement complete seasonal and weekly landscape action plans
  • Supervise staff and volunteers in hardscape and landscape maintenance tasks
  • Assist with training and support of seasonal gardeners and volunteers
  • Perform daily and seasonal landscape work including mowing, planting pruning, pest and invasive species management, leaf removal, snow and ice clearing, litter removal
  • Basic maintenance of paths, gardens and meadows
  • Facility maintenance as needed
  • Maintain all Land Care tools including hand tools, power tools and vehicles

Minimum Requirements

Horticulture Supervisor- Full Time Position
Job Description
The Landscape Horticulture Supervisor will be a full-time, year-round employee of Mill River Park Collaborative and is an integral part of the Park Operations team. The position reports to the Land Care Manager as well and the park President & CEO. Working with a team of Land Care Associates, the Volunteer Coordinator and park Administrators, this employee is responsible for setting the aesthetic vision of the park as well as the year-round care and maintenance of its landscape features. Responsibilities include all aspects of monitoring, caring for and reporting of all Natural and Ornamental Landscape features in the park.

Primary Tasks
* Develop and implement complete seasonal and weekly Horticulture action plans
* Identify areas in the landscape in need of management, then design and implement complete action plans which address needs and satisfy park goals
* Supervise staff and volunteers in horticulture tasks
* Assist with training and support of seasonal gardeners and volunteers
* Perform seasonal landscape work including planting pruning, pest and invasive species management, assist with leaf removal, snow and ice clearing
* Act as an ambassador for Mill River Collaborative, answering questions for park visitors about horticulture, Park history and design
* Document, report and catalog plant-related information
* Actively promote and contribute to park sustainability initiatives in landscape and park management
* Schedule that varies to meet the needs of the Park, including weekends, holidays and evenings

Qualifications
* Five or more years horticultural experience with in-depth knowledge of plant culture, maintenance, and identification with an emphasis on natural areas management
* Degree /Certification in horticulture or related field preferred;
* Ability to Draw complete landscape designs to meet park needs/ estimate project expenses / lead others in installation and maintenance of landscapes
* Able to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed
* Applicant may be required to pass a written and practical exam
* Computer literate with ability to use MS Office and do basic internet research
* Ability to operate power tools
* Must be a team-player, willing to collaborate on any and all tasks required for maintaining the highest standards of landscape management and operations
* Valid driver’s license
* Pesticide Applicator or Arborist licenses a plus
* Ability to supervise a crew and provide training
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
